Understanding the Procedure

Over time, the consumption of coffee, tea, dark soda, red wine, and tobacco can stain your teeth, making them dull and discolored. Teeth whitening has given so many of our Boston patients a chance to eliminate the small imperfections in their smiles, and feel more confident about the way they look. At Stuparich and Nouel Dental Associates, we use one of the best products in cosmetic dentistry: the Zoom!® teeth whitening system. Zoom!® has both in-office and at-home equipment that makes it easy to whiten and brighten your smile, no matter your lifestyle.

The in-office treatment can be completed in about an hour during a single office visit. The whitening solution is applied directly to your teeth, and a special Zoom!® bleach-boosting light is used to intensify the effects of the solution. By combining the power of the solution and the light, our in-office treatment provides results that far surpass those of over-the-counter whitening kits.

The at-home whitening system that we offer is often used in conjunction with our chairside treatment to give patients the opportunity to fine-tune the results they're looking for. The whitening trays that we send home with you will be customized to fit your bite in order to optimize your results. The whitening solution will be placed into the tray, which will be worn for a few hours at a time. The customization ensures that the whitening solution is distributed evenly across all of your teeth.

As with any medical treatment, the procedure details and the results achieved depend on each individual case. The specifics of your care plan will be discussed in detail prior to beginning the process to ensure that you have the information and instructions you need to achieve the best possible results.

In most cases, those who have relatively good oral and overall health are candidates for teeth whitening.

Teeth whitening can provide fantastic results for most patients. It is important to set reasonable expectations. A full exam will determine if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. Reasons for disqualification can include:

· Age: Bleaching is not recommended for children under 16 due to issues with tooth sensitivity

· Sensitivity or allergies: Patients who have very sensitive teeth or gums should consult with one of our doctors prior to whitening teeth. Those who are allergic to peroxide should not use bleaching products.

· Gum disease, worn enamel, cavities, or exposed roots: Our patients who have more complicated dental problems should avoid whitening their teeth until such conditions are corrected. Our restorative and general dentistry experts can help.
