An important part of placing a dental implant is having enough bone to secure the implant in place.
The bone surrounding teeth is often compromised due to infections, periodontal disease or trauma. If a tooth has been missing for several years, the bone in that area will naturally start to diminish.
Bone grafting procedures are often done prior to implant surgeries. For implants to be placed on the top teeth, a sinus lift may be done to make room for the bone grafting material.
